It started with a vision and singular thought of how we should deal with fast fashion products. These Primark pyjama trousers had been on Vinted for around 6 months and were not selling for even £1. The value had been lost.
I decided to explore how we can still get worth from something so invaluable now to us.
Starting with the basic shell of the garment, visually deciding what could possible be made from this fast fashion piece? First thought was a bag, but after drafting some small clothing patterns I opted for some shorts and accessories. However it then dawned on me to set a challenge to create as many items of children's clothing in different sizes with no waste left.
It included a lot of forward thinking and strategic pattern cutting.
At the end of the process there was not a single scrap piece of material left, every time a piece was created the off-cuts were added to the practical coasters.
The final products below include; 3- 6 month old top, 6-9 month old romper, 9 months- 1 year old skirt and shorts, a scrunchie, a pair of coasters and a pair of socks. They had a chance at being owned again with no association to fast fashion.
